Abstract
The Kankakee River is the essential natural resource of the surrounding IL/IN region. Its proper stewardship is of concern to all area citizens, but not without conflicting interests. A bi-state conference on ONU's campus was proposed, then developed to involve all important stakeholders for a day of education and conversation. The convoluted journey to develop such an event will be explored as are the important lessons learned. Insights applicable for those interested in undertaking a similar future event will be shared. Also, science content highlights from the conference will be included.
