Abstract
The Special Education program has worked in conjunction with the Kankakee Area Special Education Symposium (KASES), founded by Dr. Brian Stipp, to identify and connect with leading special educators in the community who are impacting the lives of learners and colleagues. Each year, KASES recognizes two area special educators-- a veteran educator and a novice educator--with a Special Educator of the Year Award. This presentation will include the unveiling of a video created by the ONU Media Team highlighting the work of each award recipient. Following the presentation of the awards, students who are currently special education majors will present questions about the role of a special educator in today’s schools, which the award recipients will answer. This session will include an open invitation to the friends, family, and colleagues of the award recipients.
